Flagship Content Roundup
Chris Garrett, one of the founders of Performancing and writer of one of those must-read ebooks - “Killer Flagship Content” has compiled and posted the Flagship Content Roundup. It’s my pleasure and luck to have my flagship content featured in his flagship blog. Chris is one of the respected blog gurus in blogosphere who offer valuable blogging advice to bloggers. I learned a lot from him.
He did the roundup for three reasons:
- To link out to content (it’s always nice to reward readers)
- To see what other bloggers thought Flagship Content was
- To prompt readers who do not have any to create some!
Thanks Chris for featuring my content from my blog post What you need to become an entrepreneur
He included the excerpt as follows:
- Do you believe in what you have written? Have you invested emotional capital? Rajesh says of his post What you need to become an entrepreneur
“The concept of Emotional Capital is so critical to entrepreneurship, and yet I rarely see it discussed. Launching a new venture has got to be one of the most exhilarating experience in business. But like all things that matter, the entrepreneurial process has its ups and downs. Understanding the emotional aspect of this process is critical to success.”
I think you can say the same about blogging, so it is a good example of both

Play to win
Last year I read the bestseller by Jack Welch - Winning, which helped taking many bold decisions in my business and in my life.
That is one of the must read book by entrepreneurs and professional managers.
I remember, I had written in some of my articles about Winning. Winning is different for different person. When I am waiting for green light on cross roads, I often get stopped by street children selling two page newspapers. If they sell their quota at Rs. one per copy, they make their day. They WIN their day. Value of winning is different for everybody.
Yesterday I was watching a TV show “Indian Idol”- one of the most popular musical show in India. Participants are competing to win the fame of “the Indian Idol”. Shabana Azmi - one of the best actresses in India and intellectual celebrity was the guest judge. She expressed a very powerful message to the participants. “Play to win. If you play, play to win. You need a killer instinct to win.” Competition has reached at the stage, where a mediocre performance will eliminate any participant. Each performance should exceed the excellence. No chances of excuses. People don’t care about the past performances. Fans of the contesting singers are competing themselves betting to make their stars win.
This is a big lesson for the entrepreneurs as well. You single wrong move may bring you down to earth. If you are confident and want to win, play like a winner and put your killer instinct to win.

Principles of persuasion in marketing
In my last post Broaden your marketing knowledge, I mentioned about the Robert Cialdini and his book. Today I will summarize what I learned from him.
Principles of persuasion in marketing:
1. Reciprocation
2. Commitment and consistency
3. Social proof
4. Liking
5. Authority
6. Scarcity
In layman terms, reciprocity means exchanging gifts. When you give gifts, people feel obliged to return the favor (to reciprocate). The entire Internet is based on reciprocity. Almost everything is free. But have you noticed that there are always options to pay for more personalized service?
One example of reciprocity is giving something for free. You can offer free samples of your product or few hours of service free. Giving something free is always a smart marketing strategy. People tend to taste first before taking risk of anything. Those who taste and want more can pay for the full treatment.
The next principle is commitment and consistency. In layman terms, this means calculated small steps. This principle

Broaden your marketing knowledge
Not only for most of the starting entrepreneurs, but also for many veterans in business, marketing and sales, marketing and paper ad, marketing and follow-up phone calls are not different. But it is not limited to that. It includes contextual dynamics of business, market, people, beliefs, and values. All kinds of marketing starts with identifying the right target audience. Life cycle of marketing starts from the first link from the defined target audience. The marketing cycle continues from the form of knowing about you, your business or your product or service may be through word of mouth, brochure, information in your web site, then online real-time live chat with the available live person, convincing to buy your product or service and way beyond that until you make the customer, your loyal customer and ultimately converting the customer as your partner.
Theodore Levitt, the famous Harvard marketing professor, said “The marketing process consists of a tightly integrated effort to discover, create, arouse, and satisfy customer needs.”
I am fan of Seth Godin. I recently completed his a “must-read” book “Permission Marketing : Turning Strangers Into Friends And Friends Into Customers“. Seth Godin refers to the marketing process as one of converting strangers into friends and friends into customers. I would like to go a step further on both ends of the marketing frame he presents.
